Before Your Procedure
What to Expect Before Your Outpatient Procedure
Before any procedure at the Outpatient Care Center, it’s important that we have all necessary information. Our staff is committed to helping you with all aspects of your care and processes for registration and financial arrangements.
Usually, you’ll register when you arrive for pre-op testing (if required) or for your procedure. Pre-registration is a quick way to speed the registration process. Learn more about the pre-registration process and download the pre-registration form.
Within 72 hours before your surgery or procedure, it’s important to come in for pre-operative testing if your doctor has instructed you to do so. Be sure to allow time to complete lab tests, x-rays or an electrocardiogram (EKG) ordered by your doctor.
Here’s a list of guidelines for preparing for your outpatient procedure. These guidelines vary, so please discuss them with your doctor before your scheduled appointment:
- On the night before your surgery or procedure, it is essential that you do not eat or drink after midnight.
- If your health status changes before your surgery, notify your doctor.
- For your comfort and safety, wear loose clothing and low-heeled shoes.
- To protect your valuables, do not bring jewelry, watches, money or other valuables with you.
- We encourage a family/friend support person to be with you before your surgery or procedure. During your procedure, your support person can wait in the outpatient waiting area.
- To ensure your safety, please make prior arrangements for a family member or friend to drive you home.
- On the day of your procedure, don’t forget to bring the following items with you:
- A list of medications you are taking at home
- Any written orders or paperwork given to you by your physician
- Your health insurance card and any health insurance information
