Telecare Program
Our Telecare Program
Telecare is a free public service program that provides comfort and friendship to people who live alone or are recuperating from an illness or surgery.
Run by the St. Rose Hospital Auxiliary, Telecare was founded in 1987 by Fannye Lower, who was impressed by how a similar program met the needs of a community that lacked a family support network. Fannye ran Telecare for five years before recruiting more volunteers for the program.
Today, Telecare volunteers call to check on and chat with members at a specified time each weekday. If the member doesn't answer the phone, a call is made to the emergency contact person to ensure that all is well.
If you're interested in participating in the free Telecare program, please complete the application form below. Be sure to list your emergency contact person on the application; this person must have a key to the member's house.
For more information or to receive an application, please contact Fannye Lower at (510) 782-4251.
